Content Salon: Math, February 2018

Do the right thing Pedagogy with Mario Benabe Jr.

CREAD in partnership with NYC Men Teach is hosting what we are calling Content Salons in the image of the salons that were held by Langston Hughes, Wallace Thurman and Zora Neale Hurston during the Harlem Renaissance. During the Renaissance these salons were where progressive Black thinkers, creators and doers would gather to discuss how they would move the culture forward.

In that image we have created the space for educational content salons, were culturally responsive, relevant and reflective educators will workshop their practices with a group of fellow content teachers. Our salons will focus on the intersection of content, pedagogy and culture from a CREAD perspective. Our 1st salon will be with Mario Benabe Jr who will explain his Do the Right Pedagogy and how to center indigenous practices in our math classrooms.
